Nice talk! But why no mention of algorithmic information theory when explaining scientific discovery? As I already wrote in a comment on Dr. Cristianini's talk: Some given data has a pattern if there exists a program that computes the data but is shorter than the data. In general, pattern analysis and scientific discovery are about finding those short programs.
