Ph.D. Mathematics, MIT (1977); M.A. Mathematics, Brandeis University; Sc.B. Applied Mathematics with Honors magna cum laude, Brown University. Professor Rissland has been on the faculty of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst since 1979. For the 1982-83 academic year, she was a Fellow of Law and Computer Science at the Harvard Law School. From 1985 through 1996, she held an appointment as Lecturer on Law at the Harvard Law School, where she taught a seminar on Artificial Intelligence and Legal Reasoning. She is recognized as a founder and world leader in the areas of Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) and AI & Law.
