Jochen Hummel is CEO of ESTeam AB. The company is specialized in large-scale processing of multilingual content. Before he was founder and CEO of Metaversum, the maker of Twinity, the virtual world based on real people and real cities. He started his career as freelance translator and developer for IBM. In 1984 he co-founded TRADOS in Stuttgart, Germany and grew it to a successful provider of translation and programming services. Around 1990 he converted the business into a pure software company and designed and developed TRADOS Translator’s Workbench, with over 70% market share the most used translation memory application in the world. In 2002 he acquired Uniscape, a Sequoia-backed Silicon Valley competitor. Even during the slowdown he grew TRADOS’ enterprise business at an average annual rate of 35%, while holding the chairman and CTO position. In 2005 he sold TRADOS for $60m (80% cash) to SDL plc, publicly traded in London. Jochen Hummel spent three years in Northern Virginia and the Silicon Valley. He has been finalist in the 2001 Greater Washington E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
