Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at Cornell University, has served as chair of the Department of City and Regional Planning and as associate dean of the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning. His research into the micropolitics of the planning process, ethics, and political deliberation assesses the ways planners shape participatory processes and manage public disputes in diverse settings. He is a mediator for the Community Dispute Resolution Center of Tompkins County, has consulted for the Consensus Building Institute, and has lectured in Cambridge, Vancouver, Seattle, Chapel Hill, Sydney, Melbourne, Helsinki, and Aix en Provence. One of his recent books is The Deliberative Practitioner (MIT Press, 1999).
