Description

I received a BA in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge in 2000, and my PhD from the University of Edinburgh in 2007 (studying in the Institute for Adaptive and Neural Computation, School of Informatics). I have also spent time working in the London offices of a large IT consultancy (by some measures, the week I started work was the exact peak of the dot-com boom), a medical monitoring systems company, the HQ of a medical emergency relief organisation, and the neonatal unit at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. I am originally from Inverness in the North of Scotland.

Lecturer in Computer Science at the Faculty of Computing & IT, Makerere University. This institution is based in Kampala, the “Rome of Africa”, in Uganda.

My research interests are in machine learning and computer vision, and currently in applications of these in developing countries. For more information see the CIT Machine Learning Group, which I coordinate.
