Description

IRAS je bil pionirski satelit, ki je odprl okno v vesolje infrardeči svetlobi. Izveden je bil v kooperaciji med ZDA, Nizozemsko in Veliko Britanijo. Projekt je imel veliko izzivov pri rešitvah. Na primer: hlajenje infrardečih detektorjev pri 2K z uporabo superfluidnega helija tako kot tudi hladne polprevodniške elektronike.
