Description

Steinberger described the media monitoring software developed by JRC which gathers and analyses between 80,000 and 100,000 news articles per day in up to fifty languages. The software clusters related news, classifies the articles into hundreds of categories, extracts information from them, fuses information found in different languages, detects breaking news, and tracks topics over time and across languages.
The users of this software are European Union (EU) institutions, EU member state organisations, international organisations and other selected partners around the world. Additionally, an average of 30,000 anonymous internet users per day make use of the public systems. Special attention was given also to the multilingual and cross-lingual functionality of the various tools and on the different user requirements.
