Description

In this presentation I show my experiences of doing a PhD study in Slovenia. In 2006, I came to Slovenia and found a position as a PhD student at the National Institute of Biology (NIB) in Ljubljana. Compared to the Dutch PhD, Slovenian PhD differs in the period of available time, set up of the PhD, language and the final output. Off course also learning the Slovene language is an interesting experience, however very feasible. My PhD was about “Recognition, search initiation, and search behaviour in hemipteran insects using vibrational communication” at the Department of Entomology. In the Department of Entomology I met many nice colleagues and a good environment for doing experiments made the PhD easier. Beside the experiments, it was also possible to do other activities regarding scientific work like going to congresses, organising meetings and congresses and other projects. In conclusion I would say that with all the experiences of doing a PhD study at NIB I am glad that I did it.
