Ever since success of Y2K problem catapulted Indian Software Industry in the global arena, developments of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Indian involvement have become complementary. Applications of ICT are deeply influencing the lives of people, in what and how they communicate for business, education, infotainment or even governance. Indian example of the success story of the application of ICT has become legendry, be it in agriculture, BPO (Business Process outsourcing), commerce, education , governance, health care etc. Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) business has been at US$ 49.7 billion in 2009-10 with a growth rate of 6%. The Government objective is to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy, develop a pool of 10 million skilled manpower and to transform India into a global hub for the expansion of language technologies. For example, the ICT Policy in School Education aims at preparing youth to participate creatively in the establishment, sustenance, and growth of the knowledge society leading to all-round socio-economic development of the nation and global competitiveness mission. We discuss some of these scenarios in the presentation.
