Description

Thomas W. Smith is the Chief Information Officer for NorthShore University HealthSystem (formerly Evanston Northwestern Healthcare) in Evanston, Illinois, USA, an integrated delivery network with four hospitals, more than 700 employed physicians, home care services, and a research institute. Mr. Smith has more than thirty years of hospital administration and information systems management experience, including more than 20 years as a CIO at two different multi-hospital corporations. He is a member of ACHE, CHIME and HIMSS. Mr. Smith has been a member of the Davies Committee since 2004 and has been a Stage 7 site inspector since 2009.

NorthShore has had a fully implemented EMR in both its hospitals and offices since 2003 and have had an enterprise data warehouse in place since 2004 and it includes daily feeds from the EMR. NorthShore won the HIMSS Davies Award in 2004, was recognized as a HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 organization in 2009 and has been awarded the Most Wired designation by Hospitals and Health Networks magazine for the past 8 years. NorthShore was recently recognized as one of the Top 10 Health Systems in the country by Thomson Reuters.
