Description

Weiwei Cheng got a double bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Business Administration at Zhengzhou University, China. After graduation, he went to Germany and studied Data and Knowledge Engineering at Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg from 2005 to 2007. In 2006 he was awarded the Outstanding International Student Scholarship by the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs of Saxony-Anhalt. He received his Master of Science degree with highest honor in November 2007 and was awarded as the Best Graduate of Year in October 2008. Since December 2007, he worked in Knowledge Engineering & Bioinformatics Lab at Philipps University Marburg as a research staff member and PhD candidate under the supervision of Prof. Eyke Hüllermeier. His research won several awards, including the Best Student Paper Award at the 19th European Conference on Machine Learning. He was a recipient of 2009 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad.

We are drowning in information, starving for knowledge. My everyday work is aiming to analyze and understand the data around us and make use of it to improve the quality of life. To this end, I conduct research on multiple areas in artificial intelligence, such as machine learning, data mining, and pattern recognition. Particularly, my current interests lie in ranking, preference learning, and multi-label classification. I have published a number of scientific papers in related fields and served as PC member and reviewer for several renowned journals and conferences. I am a member of ACM, IEEE, IMLS.
