Description
Novel quantum structures can be realized by manipulating surface single atoms and molecules. Recent efforts in manipulating these basic construction species by means of a low-temperature ultra high vacuum scanning tunneling microscope, combined with a variety of tunneling spectroscopic methods, will be presented. The performed experiments are important for both, fundamental understanding and construction of novel nano-devices. Described will be i.a. measurements of lateral forces required to move individual atoms, realization of a multi-step single molecule switch, and an hybrid device, composed of atoms and molecules.
