For further studies may i suggest that you guys download Sig.ma ? its open source and did this years ago + it has a quite praised user interface.

Sig.ma uses sindice, but not only, it also can use yahoo (in parallel + any23 + proper caching) the way youdo here.

The thing has been there since years, and open source downloadable since over a year

might have been worth mentioning that any23 is also a piece of sindice (made it open source over a year ago, some of our guys still contributing to it).
