MIT 7.012 Introduction to Biology - Fall 2004
released under terms of: Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike (CC-BY-NC-SA)
The MIT Biology Department core courses, 7.012, 7.013, and 7.014, all cover the same core material, which includes the fundamental principles of biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and cell biology. Biological function at the molecular level is particularly emphasized and covers the structure and regulation of genes, as well as, the structure and synthesis of proteins, how these molecules are integrated into cells, and how these cells are integrated into multicellular systems and organisms. In addition, each version of the subject has its own distinctive material.
7.012 focuses on the exploration of current research in cell biology, immunology, neurobiology, genomics, and molecular medicine.
Course Highlights
This course features a complete set of video lectures by Professor Eric Lander, Director of the Broad Institute at MIT and a principal leader of the Human Genome Project and Professor Robert A. Weinberg, winner of the 1997 National Medal of Science.
Education development efforts for these introductory biology courses are one of many activities conducted by the HHMI Education Group Group at MIT. This group focuses on curriculum development work for creating teaching tools in undergraduate biology courses.

thanx M I T its very useful lectures
the 25 lecture genomic is missed
Just wanted to say thank-you for a wonderful set of lectures, I'm only half way though watching them all, but so far they have provided me with an intriguing introduction to Biology which I other wise would not of been able to assatain. Thank again for sharing your work...*I would love to see lecture 25 though, but beggars can't be choosers*
the fact that MIT has chosen to "open-source" so many courses demonstrates awesome forward-thinking. Through this, MIT signals that it cares more about knowledge than prestige. I am impressed and inspired. I can now afford to enrich my intellect, like my "rich cousins" have done. This is no small change in the landscape of higher education.
The camera focused on the overhead should be set up differently. Try a different filter on the lense, or bring it to the front of the class.
MIT open-courses are very helpful to me! The professors are excellent and the lectures are brilliant! Thank you very much!
Please i'm new to these programes and i would like you to help me to register learning a number of subjects.i kindly request you.

Just wanted to say thank you! As a homeschooling mother this has provided a wonderful opportunity for my children to excel beyond my own imagination. They can come to college prepared.
I also just read a Thomas Jefferson Education by Oliver Van DeMille and this only reaffirms our needs as a society for educating in unconventional ways.
Thank the Lord that you are willing to step up for education without asking for a payout.

Thank you very much for these lectures. As a postgraduate student, I always spend times to revise biomedical basic sciences through MIT OpenCourseWare.
Great review the lectures have provided. Thank you for sharing.
thanks for provinding lecture.
super
Though I am in far away Nigeria, your open source course wares have been a tremendous help as a biochemstry student. I hope to donate to this course someday. On behalf of my friends,we are very grateful. Eshe gaan (yoruba)

Thank you so much for these wonderful courses. You do so much for people who want to develop and learn. I found a useful website earlier https://teacherhabits.com/what-is-who... and I want to share it with you. There you will find a lot of information for general growth.
I hope it will help you a lot!
