Description

This interactive course provides new and seasoned researchers with a framework in a step-by-step manner for using quantitative and qualitative research approaches within the same study. The instructor will provide many published examples and illustrate how to conduct mixed methods research using both statistical software such as SPSS and qualitative software such as QDA Miner. Participants will be able to understand the historical underpinnings of mixed methods research, define and explain mixed methods research in its current form, describe the major steps in the mixed methods research process, identify goals and objectives for mixed methods research studies, identify mixed methods techniques for conducting literature reviews, identify the rationale and purpose for mixing quantitative and qualitative approaches, design mixed methods research questions, describe the role of sampling in the mixed methods research process, compare and contrast several mixed methods research designs, describe several ways of collecting data in mixed methods research studies, conduct mixed methods data analyses, link research questions to mixed methods data analysis techniques, identify how to make quality meta-inferences, explain the major legitimation types in mixed methods research, and understand issues and standards involved in conducting, reporting, and publishing mixed methods research.

Wonderful lecture! Dr. Onwuegbuzie, I plan to link to this lecture of yours in a course on research methodology that I am teaching at Union Inst. & University in Cincinnati, OH. I would love to be able to also link or view a copy of your Powerpoint presentation, too, since it is very hard to read in the video. I will respect your copyright. Would you kindly send it to me?

Dr. Onwuegbuzie, I am a 2nd year PhD student, and your lecture was most helpful in expanding my understanding of mixed methods research. Like others, I would like to have access to your slides as well as links to articles that focus in the area of education. Also, please advise me of the title and publisher of your recent book. I will take care to respect your copyright. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and work in the field of mixed methods research.

Reminded me of VSU. Dr. Tony was always an excellent presenter and a great teacher. Thanks for all the background information which enabled me to complete my coursework and eventually my dissertation.

Dr. Onwuegbuzie,
I am Finnish Researcher-Teacher in Colombia, teaching research courses in English, undergraduate level, at the University. It is excellent to have the possibility to listen about this topic in the net. Your lecture is very interesting, helpful and with a clear, good content. I would also appreciate the slides as they are not so well seen. I hope your cough is not distrubing you anymore.

Dr. Onwuegbuzie
really i have enjoyed your presentation. i am a 1st year PhD student. it will be very helpful if i have access to the slides and articles especially related with legitimation in mixed methods research.

Dear Onwuegbuzie,

I was able to listen to your lecture this evening. Before today, I have cited some of your works on mixed methods. I am impressed by your strong believe on mixed methods. I think it is rewarding for researchers to be diversified than to be fixed on one area. Like everyone else, can I have access to you slides. I am currently pursuing my PH.D at the Capella University. I will be taking qualitative research course next quarter. Hope you feel better with your cough. Thanks

You guys might want to check out www.Dedoose.com. It is a web-based mixed methods research application, and it Rocks. Free trial for a full month, Nothing to install, accessible from anywhere, collaborative and team oriented. Dedoose was designed by Drs. Tom Wiesner and Eli Lieber of UCLA's Center for Culture and Health, two of the pioneers of mixed methods research. Check it out!

can please e-mail your mixed methods presentation

Comment11 Maria Hamilton, July 18, 2011 at 1:06 a.m.:

Your lecture is most enlightening. It is interesting that one of your rationales for mixed method research is to strike a balance within one research. However, people are usually concerned with the time consumption required for this method. What do suggest could lessen the time this method requires? Also, could you please email me your presentation? And, could the video be edited to reduce to coughing please? Thank you Dr. Onwuegbuzie.

Hello Dr. Onwuegbuzie:

Thank you for making this lecture available on line. I really enjoyed the presentation. I am a 2nd year doctoral student who is considering applying m/m to the overarching research question (I still have some flushing out of the question to do). As some of the other comments indicate, it will be very helpful to have access to the slides.

Again, thank you for making this information available.

Respectfully,

Holly Kelly

Thank-you Dr. Onwuegbuzie for a really excellent lecture, which will go a long way to my defense of my choice of mixed research for my doctoral thesis.
Can I please have a copy of the slides. It is permissible to quote from them, with full reference to your online lecture?
Many thanks,
Maureen

Comment21 tissa, November 25, 2013 at 12:20 p.m.:

I think I will be the only one to critique the lecture. First of all the videographer is absolutely horrible. If the video was made specifically to post online, then please fire that videographer. Not only that person has absolutely no clue how to use a camera, they also have no cue as what is more important - to look at the face of Dr.Onwuegbuzie or to loos at the slides with useful information, examples, and names of the references and authors. As much as I enjoy the face of Dr.Onwuegbuzie, when I am trying to listen to a lecture (especially a video lecture), I want to see the slides. Even when the slides are shown, there are fuzzy and you can't see anything at all. No wonder every person on here is asking for slides - they are simply not recognizable from this video!
Now, why couldn't someone give you water? You coughed the entire lecture. Yes we are all humans and we cough, but this could be easily preventable.
Yes you have an accent and I understand the time pressure, but knowing that you have an accent, you really should consider slowing down a little bit so others could understand you easier.
I found the first 15 minutes completely useless with no significant information at all. I think that time could be used for something more educational and useful.

Now the good things: I am glad there are PDF documents for download and read over. I am also glad about the very fact that such lecture is available because it definitely helps many students to strengthen their knowledge. Thank you for that.
